He received the PhD in physics from the University of Pisa, Italy, in the 1982. More than 120 pubblications on international scientific journals, chapters of books, proceedings of international congresses, national and international patents. From 1982 to 1983: researcher at the Institute of Physics, University of Pisa, on the study and characterisation of surface properties of nematic liquid crystals. From 1984: researcher at Center of Bioengineering, University of Pisa. From June 1987 to July 1988: Visiting Associate at the Division of Research Services, NIH, Bethesda, MD, on the modeling of hydrogels as bi-phasic tissues analogous. From 1988 to today: research staff member at the Institute of Clinical Physiology of Italian National Research Council.
