Prof. Wu-Ming LIU

Professor Wu-Ming Liu is a distinguished theoretical physicist at the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, China. He has served as Professor and Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Condensed Matter Theory and Material Computation within the Beijing National Laboratory for Condensed Matter Physics since 2002. His principal areas of expertise include theoretical atomic and molecular physics, theoretical condensed-matter physics, mathematical physics, quantum optics, ultracold quantum gases, nonlinear optics, and quantum many-body systems.  Professor Liu received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 1994, specialising in theoretical condensed-matter physics. His doctoral research focused on nonlinear and non-equilibrium dynamics in condensed-matter physics. He previously earned his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Physics from Yunnan Normal University. Following his doctorate, he undertook postdoctoral research at the Institute of Physics, CAS, and subsequently held research positions at the University of Texas at Austin and the Bartol Research Institute, University of Delaware.  His research encompasses topological and non-Hermitian quantum phenomena, strongly correlated bosonic and electronic systems, Bose–Einstein condensates, quantum phase transitions, quantum magnetism, spintronics, solitons, vortices, superfluidity, and integrable systems. He has authored more than 530 publications, with over 35,500 citations and an H-index of 75 as reported in the supplied curriculum vitae. His research has appeared in leading journals including Science, Nature Photonics, Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, Physical Review B, and Physics Reports. Professor Liu has also contributed extensively to academic publishing and professional service through editorial-board and advisory roles. His honours include the Fellowship of the Institute of Physics, UK, the CAS Hundred Talent Program, the Distinguished Young Scholar award of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and several provincial and national science and technology prizes.
